Rapid growth of Indian economy since the 1990’s has been accompanied by a growing agricultural distress. More than 300,000 farmers have committed suicide in this period; the manufacturing sector is stagnating. About 1 crore 30 lakh Indians are born every year but job creation in the organized sector absorbs only 10% of this number. India’s “growth” in the last two decaes of economic liberalization focuses on government’s promotion in the areas that satisfy and serve the elite, while denying the poor of their basic requirements.
